The Nigerian Political Party…Parties: 5th May 2010
As at a 5th May 2010, there were 58 registered Nigerian political parties; a prominent milestone, indicative of our political non equilibrium; the date of last check, being same day of another milestone; sad death of President Umar Yar’Adua: whose preceding chronic illness had caused much disquiet within certain quarters of the Nigerian political establishment. May his soul rest in perfect peace - and his family bear their loss - within God’s compassionate embrace. And and with the ceasless replenishings of strength and directions…that they’ll heal completely and be whole and triumphant.
President Umar Yar’Adua was 58 years old, when he died. His own memorial and tribute; some have said...about the number of Nigerian political parties buzzing within the polity.
58 Nigerian political parties, is a big number. Some say; these Nigerian political parties should be pruned: that this large number of parties…clouds the Nigerian political issue. Our Nigerian political news, and Nigerian political issues would be simpler to handle. And the bureaucracy involved in handling the various Nigerian political issues, about multiple Nigerian Political parties would be reduced.
But so too, would it be easier - on the energy reserves of a new mother…if her newborn child was fully ready for marriage within six months from birth. The baby being born, fully matured…in no need of nappy changing…no need of breastfeeding; or of rocking baby gently to sleep.
The protagonists, who hail from both within the electorate and inside the operations of our Nigerian democratic institutions have become impatient with - nature's slowness of development. They are showing bad symptoms of the same malady that had caused Nigeria…not to divest into the timely ventures such as agricultures and manufacturing. They are bored with routine and sameness; and it is with this short sightedness, they seek to disassemble - a young nature: the newness of a Nigerian democracy.
They are convinced that the current number of Nigerian political parties is too many. And by implication, the folly of their conclusion being, the process of natural selection has been completed. That already, Nigeria, has produced the main Nigerian political parties which will lead us to our Mecca of Promised Lands…and so therefore the important Nigerian political issue is to decapitate the heads of the other Nigerian Political parties…because on centre stage, the political establishment and elite have won forever.
A young mother parenting a young child…is also parenting herself. She feeds off of the relationship of sacrifice. Her skills of patience and compassion are put to the test. She marvels at how much of herself or the child’s father is reflected back...that they can adjust, and still grow themselves. The mother waits for the child’s bones to become stronger. She waits for the child, be able to stand…then walk, before running. And eventually after many years of parenting…her baby grows.
Nigeria needs to be patient. We are a very young Nigerian political democracy. Our Nigerian political parties need time to grow…to cast them away for being unable to walk…is like amputating the legs of a baby after eighteen long months of crawling. Even the prominent and ruling Nigerian political parties are still ideologically indistinguishable; and immature.
So having a plethora of Nigerian political parties, is a Nigerian political issue that we will have to carry on our backs...for a while longer. And this matter will eventually sort itself out, by a process of natural selection - within the melee of struggling for room within the womb. And also by way of political reforms: about how Nigerian Political parties are funded. So before we lose - precious time and sleep over this Nigerian political issue, let’s pay attention to other the Nigerian political news; as the babies on our backs grow stronger and wiser.
We have to nurture our young Nigerian democracy with sense, and not - hurry.
When we want drink nice tasting tea, we drop our teabag into hot water, then we pour Peak or Carnation milk [inside], then we added the cubes of sugar [inside], then we... stir and stir and stir; well well, until the sugar and milk have mixed; well well [inside].
Let’s make this our Nigerian democracy...enjoyment party, taste sweeter. It never mix; well well; make we first wait for the sugar to enter [inside], before we begin drink am, and say e no get good taste.
Let’s leave our fledgling Nigerian political parties alone.
Pikin wey dey e mama back, wey dey sleep: im still dey grow: leave am.
